Report of the National Technology day celebrations at Govt Engineering College Thrissur
The National Technological day was celebrated in Government Engineering College on June 8, 2010. The celebrations were begun by lighting the lamp by the chief guest of the function, Dr M P Sukumaran Nair, Special secretary to Chief Minister. In his inspiring inaugural address Dr Sukumaran Nair stressed the need for developing sustainable and environment friendly technologies and ensuring that the benefits of technological advancements reach all sections of the society. Principal Dr K Vijayakumar presided over the function. Prof. V Jayakumari, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering welcomed the gathering and Dr Shalij P R proposed vote of thanks. The inaugural function commenced at 10.45 and concluded at 11.45. Around 100 participants have registered and attended the program which includes faculty members as well.
Two technical sessions were organised as a part of the celebrations. In the morning secession, Dr V P Namboori, Former head of the department of photonics, Cochin University of science and technology delivered a lecture on ‘Advancement of Science and Technology’. Dr Nampoori explained the various stages of developments of science and technology and stressed upon the need for setting directions in development of new technologies. In the afternoon session, Professor Babu Alappat, Associate Professor, IIT Delhi delivered a lecture on Environmental issues. Both the lectures were well received by the participants. In his lecture Dr Alappat highlighted the various global, national and local environmental issues, their causes and proposed remedies.
